  研究複雜性碳水化合物的抗原決定因子和生物活性區的化學構造及結合性質,將有助於解這些碳水化合物的分子在生物學和醫學上所扮演的角色。這些知識對於疫苗的製造和血清診斷(Serodiagnosis)的改進或對於CancerGenetic disorders的診斷是有相當的助意的。同時,對於人類血型間的關係,微生物如何附著在宿主細胞和宿主如何在防止微生物侵入的過程,GlycoconjugatesNeurobiology所扮演的角色等等,將能用分子觀點來解釋,進而可供發展防止感染和中毒的方法。又如Lectins, ChitinOligosaccharides等,在醫學上、工業上的應用具有相當的潛在力。目前台灣在這方面的基礎研究幾乎還在起點,長庚醫學院的碳水化合物免疫化學研究室擁有抗原製備室、現代化的抗原決定因子純化系統和免疫化學分析設備,可供國際水準複雜性碳水化合物和分子免疫學的研究。

 

Research Description

    Knowledge of the structures and binding properties of antigenic determinants and active sites (epitopes) of complex carbohydrates will contribute to a better understanding of the functional roles of these carbohydrates at the molecular level, and will provide us with valuable information about the following aspects: (a) understanding life process, mechanism of infections, inflammation, genetic disorders and cancer; (b) producing new reagents to detect cancer; (c) for developing vaccines and drugs to prevent infection, and (d) for improving serodiagnosis.
